My First Game from Scratch

scratchI had to test developing a simple game using Scratch after watching Mitch Resnick's Ted talk video - Let's teach kids to code. The idea of teaching kids to use computers for something else than gaming is the basic idea why I'm currently in software business and why I love doing this. For the first years computers were just an hobby but I wasn't into gaming- I love doing graphic, web pages and video editing. Schools weren't my strong suit so without passsion for computer related activities I wouldn't be a developer and propably wouldn't love my job. And here's the great game :) I spend 15min for "coding" and couple more with the graphics.

Moomin dodgeball

Scratch Project Use up and down arrow keys to dodge the ball. Here's the beatiful code which move the ball. Scratch seems to be a great tool for education. I can imagine how this kind of tools where child learn's by playing really helps learning. One important feature is still missing from scratch for more developed users and that's functions. Functions and reusing of code makes programming much more interested and challenging. Perhaps that's a whole nother story. P.s. Did you know that in Estonia they teach coding in elementary?
